Affiliate Marketing Predictions 2009

After getting really lucky with my 2008 predictions I was in two minds whether to dust off the crystal ball and have another stab again this year, but with some trepidation here goes.
- Deeplinking (1) some of the affiliate networks that have been seriously lagging behind in the deeplinking stakes will vastly improve what they have to offer.
- Affliliate Management one of the leading UK affiliate networks will outsource its internal affiliate program management to a leading affiliate management agency thus improving the offering and freeing up vital resources for the day to day running of the network.
- Deeplinking (2) one of the innovative affiliate networks will introduce a solution for creating affiliate links on the fly (ie the affiliate only needs to add the destination url to their website) this may take the form of a java script solution or some kind of plugin or widget, thus taking deeplinking to another level.
- The High Street – Not entirely affiliate related however I predict that a major high street chain will close its bricks and mortar operations and become internet only.
hmmm

Have to agree that a major highstreet company will go internet only. Would make a hell of a lot of sense for quite a few !!
Hi Keith, I like your predictions, I reckon regarding point 4 that argos would make a great internet only shop, umm. Mally
Dixons have already gone that way but that was only possible because DSGi also had Currys, PC World, The Link in their stable. Oh, and they also own Pixmania so had an idea of volumes and revenue streams etc.
You could have argued that HMV would have gone that way 12 months ago, and indeed that would have made sense. But they didn’t and have actually improved this year – and will be helped in 2009 by not having Zavvi around.
Good predictions Keith, here are mine related to travel industry affiliate marketing.

On your clicks and mortar prediction, I’m sure we will see a lot less high street travel agencies.
Interesting predictions. Unless you have insider information for the affiliate management one I’m hugely sceptical on this. I can think of maybe one network that could benefit from this but even then I’d be very surprised.
Good predictions I can see where you are coming from with less bricks and mortar shops, I think shops if they can should utilise both but with the economy how it is I am not sure how they can. I hope the market picks back up soon. I think affiliate marketing will continue to grow but I think merchants will struggle to offer competitive returns on their products
Hi Keith,
We can only HOPE regarding your deeplinking predictions.
I did a video back in November regarding my predictions for affiliate marketing in 2009 – especially as relates to the current economic crisis. (Linked above)
Cheers,
Ros
